Shanghai, China – May 14, 2026 – Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporatio

Shanghai, China – May 14, 2026 – Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ('Toshiba') today announced that it has started providing engineering samples of the 'TB9M040FTG'. This product is a motor control device with a built-in power MOSFET for three-phase brushless DC motor drive, and is the newest member of Toshiba's SmartMCD™ series. The TB9M040FTG integrates a microcontroller (MCU) and motor drive circuitry, enabling direct drive of three-phase brushless DC motors for controlling small motors in automotive equipment.

As vehicle electrification of movable parts continues to advance, demand is growing for small three-phase brushless DC motors in applications such as electric valves, HVAC system flaps/dampers, and grille shutters. This is also driving the need for fewer components, smaller electronic control units (ECUs), and support for field-oriented control (FOC) and sensorless control capabilities.

The TB9M040FTG integrates an Arm® Cortex®-M23 MCU, flash memory, motor drive circuitry capable of directly driving a three-phase brushless DC motor, high-side drive circuitry, a LIN transceiver, and a power supply system that can operate from automotive battery voltage – all housed in a compact VQFN36 (6mm × 6mm) package. The device also features Toshiba's proprietary Vector Engine (VE), which reduces CPU load in FOC motor control applications and helps reduce software program size.

Additionally, the TB9M040FTG includes back electromotive force (BEMF) detection capability, enabling sensorless square-wave control. These features help automotive equipment achieve miniaturization and component count reduction, supporting a wide range of small automotive motor applications, and allowing control of small motors within vehicle systems via LIN communication with the ECU.

Toshiba will continue to expand the SmartMCD™ series product line equipped with functions necessary for automotive system motor drive, contributing to the miniaturization and reduction of component count in automotive systems.
