Melexis Launches Highly Configurable Single-Coil Fan Driver for Serial Expansion

December 19, 2025, Tessenderlo, Ham, Belgium – Global microelectronics engineering company Melexis today announced the launch of the MLX90411D, a new 800mA driver designed for single-coil brushless DC (BLDC) cooling fans. The latest addition to the MLX90411 product family offers significant improvements in customer configurability, motor control smoothness, and system integration ease. This innovative product targets single-coil fans operating at 5V, 12V, 24V, or 32V, with applications spanning consumer electronics (such as gaming devices, PCs), home appliances (e.g., refrigerators), and power infrastructure (including UPS and energy storage systems).

The MLX90411D features an optimized motor control algorithm that enables smoother start and stop operations, effectively reducing acoustic noise and extending product lifespan. Its enhanced proportional-integral (PI) regulation ensures stable motor performance even at extremely low speeds (below 1000 RPM). The product supports multiple start and stop modes, flexible speed curve definition, and allows users to set maximum and minimum operating points for precise airflow control and reduced power consumption.

To simplify system design, the MLX90411D integrates Frequency Generator (FG) and Rotation Detection (RD) outputs, enabling system-level monitoring without requiring additional specific components. It also offers configurable PWM input with optional pull-up or pull-down, eliminating the need for external inverters, reducing bill-of-materials (BOM) count, and lowering system costs. The driver incorporates comprehensive protection and diagnostic features, including programmable lock-rotor protection (LRP), thermal shutdown (TSD), programmable overvoltage protection (OVP), and overcurrent protection (OCP).

Housed in a SOT23-6 package that is pin-compatible with the MLX90411B, the MLX90411D allows for easy migration and upgrade. With its advantages in configurability, acoustic performance, cost optimization, and high reliability, it serves as an ideal driver solution for fans under 10W, suitable for applications ranging from gaming consoles and PCs to refrigerators, VGA/GPU cooling, and 24V/32V industrial fans used in UPS, inverters, and energy storage systems.
