Vishay Launches New SMD Surge Current Limiting PTC Thermistor to Improve Substrate Efficiency and Reduce Costs

November 18, 2025, Malvern, Pennsylvania, and Shanghai, China — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the launch of the PTCES series of insulated, surface-mount surge current limiting Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thermistors. The Vishay BComponents PTCES series features a compact package with energy absorption capability up to 340J and voltage handling capacity up to 1200 VDC, improving substrate efficiency and reducing costs in automotive and industrial applications.

Compared to competing devices, the PTCES series offers 260% higher energy absorption and 20% greater voltage handling, allowing designers to reduce component count, save board space, and lower overall system costs. The series is suitable for various current limiting and overload protection applications, including AC/DC and DC/DC converters, onboard chargers (OBC), and motor drivers.

The new PTC thermistors utilize barium titanate ceramic material, meet AEC-Q200 standards, withstand over 100,000 surge power cycles, feature an insulation voltage of 3 kVAC, and support automated SMD processing to enhance production efficiency and reduce costs.
