Renesas Electronics has announced the RA8T2 microcontroller family based on the Arm® Cortex®-M85 core, targeting industrial equipment, robotics, and other high-precision motor control systems. The series operates at up to 1.6GHz and offers an optional 250MHz Cortex-M33 co-processor, enabling parallel processing of real-time control and communication tasks to help reduce system complexity and overall power consumption.
Leveraging the Helium™ vector extension technology of the Cortex-M85, the RA8T2 significantly enhances digital signal processing and machine learning performance, supporting AI-based predictive maintenance for motors. The series also integrates dual Gigabit Ethernet MACs, an EtherCAT slave interface, and multi-protocol industrial networking support to meet high-speed synchronization and real-time communication requirements in factory automation.
For memory, the RA8T2 features 1MB of high-speed MRAM with faster write speeds and greater endurance compared to traditional flash, along with tightly coupled memory (TCM) to ensure low latency and high real-time performance even in interrupt-intensive motor control tasks.
According to Daryl Khoo, Vice President of the Embedded Processing Marketing Division at Renesas, the RA8T2 further strengthens the company's leadership in motor control solutions, providing core computing power and connectivity for next-generation factory automation and robotic systems.
