GigaDevice launches GD32G5 series high-performance MCUs with Cortex-M33 core, fully stimulating innovation vitality in industrial applications.

Beijing, China (November 13, 2024) - GigaDevice, an industry-leading semiconductor device supplier (Stock Code: 603986), announced the official launch of the GD32G5 series of high-performance microcontrollers based on the Arm Cortex-M33 core.

The GD32G5 series of MCUs, with excellent performance, rich interface resources, and enhanced security features, can be widely applied to diverse scenarios such as digital power supplies, charging piles, energy storage inverters, frequency converters, servo motors, and optical communications. This series of new product combinations offers a total of 14 models in 7 packaging types including LQFP, QFN, and WLCSP. Applications for sample chips and development boards are now open, and mass production and supply will officially begin in December.

Powerful Performance Empowers the Industrial Market: The GD32G5 series of MCUs adopts the Arm Cortex-M33 high-performance core with a main frequency of up to 216 MHz. It has built-in advanced DSP hardware accelerators and single-precision floating-point units (FPU); it also integrates a hardware trigonometric function accelerator (TMU) that supports the calculation of 10 types of functions; and it incorporates multiple hardware acceleration units such as filtering algorithms (FAC) and fast Fourier transforms (FFT), significantly enhancing processing efficiency. The working performance of the GD32G5 series of MCUs at the highest main frequency can reach 316 DMIPS, and it achieved an excellent score of 694 in the CoreMark test. The GD32G5 series of MCUs is equipped with 256 KB to 512 KB of embedded Flash, supporting the Flash dual-Bank function; and 128 KB of SRAM, including 32 KB of tightly coupled memory (TCMRAM), enabling zero-wait execution of critical instructions and data; it is also equipped with cache space, with up to 2 KB of I-Cache and 512 B of D-Cache, further enhancing the core processing performance.

Rich Peripherals Enable Development and Innovation: The GD32G5 series of MCUs integrates a series of rich peripheral resources. It supports 4 12-bit ADCs with a sampling rate of up to 5.3 MSPS and has up to 42 channels; it also supports 4 12-bit DACs, with 2 of them having a sampling rate of up to 15 MSPS; and it includes 8 fast comparators (COMP) and other high-precision analog peripherals required to support various motor power control scenarios. The GD32G5 series of MCUs is equipped with a 16-channel high-resolution timer (HRTimer) with an accuracy of 145 ps; and 3 8-channel advanced timers, 2 32-bit general-purpose timers, 5 16-bit general-purpose timers, 2 16-bit basic timers, and 1 low-power timer. The GD32G5 series of microcontrollers provides 5 U(S)ARTs, 4 I2C, 3 SPI, and 1 QSPI, supporting a maximum 200 MHz DDR/SDR interface; it is equipped with 3 CAN-FD modules, suitable for high-speed communication application scenarios; it also integrates 1 HPDF high-performance digital filter, supporting 8 Channels/4 Filter, with an external Σ-Δ modulator; and it includes 4 configurable logic modules (CLA); it provides a Trigsel module to support flexible configuration of trigger sources. The entire GD32G5 series supports a wide temperature working range of -40 to 105 °C, capable of meeting the differentiated scenarios with high temperature requirements such as optical modules, industrial power supplies, and high-speed motor control.

Secure and Reliable to Build a Quality Fortress: The GD32G5 series of MCUs has multiple built-in security functions, providing multiple security protection mechanisms including support for secure OTA, secure boot, secure debugging, and secure upgrade for the communication process. It provides 2 KB of OTP storage space to ensure that the code data is not changed, thereby protecting the security and integrity of the device. The entire Flash/SRAM area of this series of MCUs supports ECC verification. It has a built-in hardware encryption and decryption module, supporting DES, triple DES, or AES algorithms, ensuring data security during the communication process. In addition, the product also supports a true random number generator (TRNG). The GD32G5 product series supports the IEC 61508 SIL2 level of functional safety standards for the system level, providing a complete Safety Package, including Safety Manual, FMEDA, and self-test libraries and other functional safety materials. It helps users accurately identify potential safety hazards and provides a solid guarantee for the stable and reliable operation of industrial applications.

The GD32 development ecosystem is growing. GigaDevice provides a free development environment, GD32 Embedded Builder IDE, a debugging and downloading tool, GD-LINK, and a multi-purpose programming tool, GD32 All-In-One Programmer. Meanwhile, mainstream embedded tool manufacturers such as Arm KEIL, IAR, and SEGGER will also provide comprehensive support including development compilation and trace debugging tools for the new GD32G5 products. The supporting manuals, software libraries, and other ecosystem documents and tools of this series of MCUs have been uploaded to the website, providing comprehensive development references for customers.

The GD32G5 product combination offers a total of 14 product models in 7 packaging types including LQFP128/100/80/64/48, WLCSP81, and QFN48. The supporting development boards have also been launched simultaneously, including the GD32G553Q-EVAL, GD32G553R-EVAL full-feature evaluation boards, and the GD32G553V-START, GD32G553M-START, and GD32G553C-START entry-level learning kits, corresponding to different packaging and pin configurations, facilitating development and debugging for users.
