April 16, 2026 — Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ('Toshiba') today announced the launch of the 'TB9M030FG', a new product in its next-generation 'SmartMCD™' series. This chip integrates a microcontroller (MCU) and motor drive circuit, and features sensorless control technology for low-speed operation of 3-phase brushless DC motors. Engineering samples are available from today.
The TB9M030FG is designed for sensorless control of 3-phase brushless DC motors in automotive applications such as electric water pumps, oil pumps, fans, and blowers. As vehicle electrification accelerates, the demand for smaller, more efficient, and lower-noise motors is growing. At the same time, highly integrated devices are becoming a trend to reduce the number of ECUs and circuit board space.
This product integrates an Arm® Cortex®-M0 core MCU, flash memory, gate driver circuit, LIN transceiver, and power supply system. It comes in a compact 9mm × 9mm QFP48 package, helping to miniaturize ECUs and reduce external components. A proprietary vector operation engine lowers CPU load and software code size for FOC control. Its low-speed sensorless control technology enables stable sensorless FOC operation from zero speed to low speed without the need for high-frequency injection, and operates more quietly.
The TB9M030FG complies with the AEC-Q100 (Grade 0) automotive qualification standard. Toshiba will continue to expand its SmartMCD™ series, contributing to the miniaturization and higher integration of automotive systems.
