ams OSRAM, a global leader in intelligent sensors and emitters, has introduced its new OSTAR™ Projection Power LED series. Featuring a compact package, high brightness output, and excellent étendue matching performance, these LEDs provide efficient and reliable lighting solutions for both micro-projectors and automotive head-up displays (HUDs).
The new LED measures just 6.8mm × 7.6mm, delivers up to 880 lumens, and enhances projection system brightness by 10–15% through precise étendue matching with 0.3-inch to 0.6-inch DMD imagers. It achieves high power density while supporting a four-channel color system, significantly improving color performance and design flexibility. Its innovative series chip structure and low-voltage design also reduce system integration complexity and overall costs.
The LED is currently planned for automotive qualification testing according to the AEC-Q102 standard, paving the way for its application in automotive HUD systems. Its high brightness and color fidelity enable clear image presentation even in strong ambient light, while its compact form factor facilitates integration into space-constrained vehicle cabins.
ams OSRAM stated that this LED technology not only enhances performance but also offers long lifespan and low maintenance costs, supporting customers' sustainability goals. It is suitable for applications requiring long-term stable operation, such as industrial projection and automotive electronics.
